CHARLOTTE, NC – NASCAR Chairman Brian France responded to reporters’ questions this afternoon over the announcement that NASCAR had mandated the Toyota Prius as the official vehicle for all NASCAR authorized races. This move would “level the playing field” for cars and race teams alike, and “move NASCAR to a more sustainable, eco-friendly future”, announced France. The Toyota Prius itself, a car that is capable of accelerating from 0-60 in a mere 9.8 seconds with a max speed of 112 MPH, is a interesting choice for a organization that has usually favored vehicles capable of reaching speeds in excess of 200 MPH. France assured reporters that the Toyota Prius would also lower fatalities and injuries in the sport itself, with the downside of slightly reduced speeds. “We here at NASCAR feel that the fans will agree with us that safety and the environment are priority number one when it comes to enjoying all that racing has to offer, and that is why we stand by our decision to choose the Toyota Prius as the official car of NASCAR” – Brian France, Chairman of NASCAR.
